Red Day for Grains
   March 31, 2010 11:03am

A lot of red on the board for the Grains today. . .

NOTE: The information contained in Jim's blog is for educational purposes. Market conditions and commodity and option prices constantly change. Being a successful PAPER TRADER during one time period does not mean that you will make money when you actually invest during a later period. Past Results are not necessarily indicative of Future Results. Trading commodity futures or options involves substantial risk of loss. Your trading decisions should be based on your own particular financial circumstances and trading objectives.

Please read the following risk disclosure statement:

CFTC RULE 4.41 - HYPOTHETICAL OR SIMULATED PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS. UNLIKE AN ACTUAL PERFORMANCE RECORD, SIMULATED RESULTS DO NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL TRADING. ALSO, SINCE THE TRADES HAVE NOT BEEN EXECUTED, THE RESULTS MAY HAVE UNDER-OR-OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE IMPACT, IF ANY, OF CERTAIN MARKET FACTORS, SUCH AS LACK OF LIQUIDITY. SIMULATED TRADING PROGRAMS IN GENERAL ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE DESIGNED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFIT OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN.

Fantastic. . .
   March 17, 2010 4:05pm

Author Michael Lewis has written some fantastic books over the years, including Liar's Poker, The Blind Side, and Moneyball.

His next book is due out this week and is titled The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. It's about the financial collapse of 2008.

Anyway, Michael sat down with 60 Minutes (CBS TV show) anchor Steve Kroft and provided a fantastic interview full of insight about the collapse.

Check out both videos below for the interview and enjoy!

FOMC Announcement Today. . .
   March 16, 2010 11:02am

Just a reminder that the Federal Open Market Committee, better known as the FOMC, will announce its policy statement on today at 11:15am PT. The focus of the announcement will be whether or not they'll raise or cut interest rates.

Be aware that this is a day when, regardless of the actual meeting language, the announcement usually brings a lot of volatility to the markets.

The markets most affected are the stock indices, metals, financials, currencies and to some degree the energies.

Keep in mind that I mention this strictly because of the volatility. I'm not saying the announcement means you should begin trading the sectors listed above. Rather I'm pointing out something that tends to move the markets and this could be a plus or a minus if you're already holding positions in markets in the sectors mentioned.

As always, the bottom line is protect your positions!

Dr. Maxwell Maltz
   March 10, 2010 2:16pm

Many of you know that I'm a HUGE fan of Dr. Maxwell Maltz' book Psych-Cybernetics. This book is an amazing publication. (By the way, we stock it here at the office. It's $8.99 if you'd like your own copy.)

Anyway, the book was written back in the 1960s and has sold more than 30,000,000 copies since then -- by word of mouth "advertising."

My point? If you've never read this book I encourage you to do so. It can help not only your personal life, but also your trading!

With that in mind, I found several video interviews with Dr. Maltz on Youtube. Below is the first video in a series of four. This video is about 10 minutes in length and is a fun watch. The remaining videos in this series are also located on Youtube. If you like this one you'll probably want to hunt down the rest and watch them too.

Enjoy!

Quote of the Day
   March 1, 2010 10:05am

Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them.
